Does ChatGPT Have Artifacts Like Claude?
ChatGPT does not have a feature called artifacts. The closest equivalent is ChatGPT Canvas — but Canvas and Claude artifacts are built for different things. Claude artifacts render live, interactive output inside the chat. Canvas is a side-panel editor for documents and code. If you want the specific thing Claude artifacts do — a working calculator, dashboard, or game rendered in a live preview, shareable via a public link — you need Claude.
What is ChatGPT's equivalent of Claude artifacts?
ChatGPT Canvas is what most people mean when they ask this. Canvas opens a side panel in ChatGPT where you can work on a document or code file with GPT. You can highlight a sentence, ask for a rewrite, accept or reject suggestions, and iterate. It is a collaborative editing environment — not a live renderer.
The key difference: Claude artifacts render the output. Ask Claude to build a calculator and you see a working calculator in the artifact pane, right inside the chat. Canvas shows you the code or document text. You get the source; you have to run it yourself.
Canvas also doesn't support React, SVG, or Mermaid diagrams. Claude artifacts do. The output types that make artifacts useful for prototyping and visualization don't have Canvas equivalents.
Can ChatGPT build interactive apps like Claude artifacts?
Partially. You can ask ChatGPT to write the HTML for an interactive app, copy it, and open it in a browser — and the code will often work. But ChatGPT does not render it inside the chat. There is no live preview pane. You get code; the running result is your responsibility.
ChatGPT's Advanced Data Analysis feature runs Python in a sandbox and is useful for data processing and file manipulation — but it is not for building shareable HTML pages. It is a computation tool, not a front-end renderer.
How does sharing compare?
Canvas shared links require the recipient to have a ChatGPT account. This limits who you can share with.
Claude's legacy Publish (chat artifacts, Free/Pro/Max) creates a public link that standard HTML artifacts load at for anyone — no Claude account required. The newer Share button (new artifacts, Pro/Max) requires a Claude account to open. ShareDuo provides the no-account path for all artifact types: download the HTML, upload to ShareDuo, and get a link with expiry, password protection, and view analytics. Canvas has no equivalent path.
If you need to share an interactive output with someone who doesn't use your AI tool, Claude artifacts plus ShareDuo is the cleaner solution.
