What's free in Claude artifacts

Public sharing is also free. Claude's Publish button creates a public link that anyone can open — no Claude account required for standard artifacts. You can also copy the embed code to drop the artifact into any website via an iframe.

What requires a paid plan

Two things are paywalled: AI-powered artifacts and live MCP connections.

AI-powered artifacts are artifacts that call Claude's API at runtime — they respond to user input by querying the model, not just running pre-written JavaScript. These require a Pro subscription because each viewer interaction consumes API credits.

Live artifact connections via MCP — where an artifact fetches real-time data from an external source each time it loads — are also a Pro-and-above feature. Claude Cowork, which is where live artifacts are built, requires at least a Pro plan.
